i have a cochlear implant and yeah i love it.. but i do agree that they shouldn't give a baby a surgary at that young age, they should wait til it like 2 yrs old or so..

i got mine at 11 years old and now im 17. I hear very well, speak very well and loving every moment of it...

I do not belive in cochlear inplant for a small child to do that. I like the way she feel about the coachlear implant.

The technology is not there. My uncle had a cochlear implant a few years back and he hates it. I believe if the child has a certain amount of hearing, then yes, cochlear implants can be considered. However, if the money was spent towards proficient interpreters, then the need would not be there for the implant. Evaluation and testing should be pressured on interpreters, not the deaf child.

If "the man" is out to eradicate the deaf community, why is ASL the third most spoken language in the US after English and Spanish and in some colleges is accepted toward a second language. Hmm, "the man" isn't doing all that great of a job. I'm learning ASL to add another "speaker" to the deaf community. I am also going to learn more about CI to understand the controversy, but I see it as a tool to help, not hinder. God be with you. Exellent video
; a discussion starter and beautiful art.

CI's are presented by the medical community as a CURE to Deafness, they think that not being able to hear is a bad thing and that all people should hear. Infants and yonge children are often implanted and never know that they were deaf before, never learn ASL and never embrace the culture they were born into. you should really do some research if your considering entering this community.

I'm sorry, but the inability to hear IS a bad thing. To say otherwise defies reason. That does not make somebody who can't hear less of a person, but saying that inability to hear is not a bad thing is political correctness to the point of the absurd.
