MULTIPLE Waterspouts/Tornadoes Reported (and Recorded!) in SE North Carolina - August 18, 2011

The word "wow" comes to mind, but it doesn't suffice o.o

SO glad nobody got hurt.. some people were being dumb.. just because it has fun splashy water in it doesn't mean it wont pick something up and throw it at you that could cut your head off! Gooood grief. ppls gave me heart attacks.

"There were multiple reports of flooded roads and some stalled vehicles. New Centre Drive was flooded between College Road and Market Street. As of 1:15 p.m., Wilmington police cruisers were blocking Market Street at 13th Street.

Police spokeswoman Lucy Crockett encouraged drivers to avoid roads covered by flooding.

"It's very important for people not to go through deep water," she said.

The Weather Service earlier had issued a tornado warning for Southern New Hanover County after numerous waterspouts were reported off the coast of Southeastern North Carolina. The Carolina Beach Police Department reported that two waterspouts came ashore and touched the ground in the vicinity of Alabama Avenue.

Carolina Beach Police Capt. Kurt Bartley said no injuries or significant damages to homes were reported.

The first waterspout was spotted near the Courtyard by Marriott hotel.

"We believe it moved on shore near the Marriott in Carolina Beach," said an official with the weather service's Wilmington office.

He said waterspouts are typically spawned by showers.

There were also unconfirmed reports of waterspouts off Oak Island and Wrightsville Beach.

The U.S. Coast Guard stations at Wrightsville Beach and Oak Island received no reports of boats in distress."

this was an an amazing video! it showed several different angles! But i have to say the stupidity of the people on the beach amazes me!! they just stood there and some people actually ran towards it
