Missouri State University Electronic Arts students led by recent graduate Sydney McGregor won first place for long-form documentary at the 2009 Broadcast Education Association Festival of Media Arts held in Las Vegas.
There were 871 entries in the competition. McGregor directed the winning documentary titled 1+1 A Human Network. The documentary looks at micro-financing in Africa as a new model for sustainable humanitarian aid.
The film was screened at the Moxie Cinema and shown around the country. The students worked for over a year on the project and traveled to Africa for 3 weeks over the 2007 Christmas break. Production of the film took 15 months and required a large amount of commitment, dedication and vision.
Media, Film and Journalism department head is Mark Biggs; he contributed to the films success along with student Bryan Mayers. On the court to congratulate them is Missouri State Associate Provost for Undergraduate education, John Catau.
Ladies and gentlemen, please acknowledge the accomplishments of the Electronic Arts Program and its students. It is in the Bancorp South Academic Spotlight.
