The Xenotropic Murine Leukeumia Virus- Related Virus, or XMRV is a new contender for possibly causing
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) and ME (Myalgic encephalomyelitis). XMRV is a gamma-retrovirus, and it has been known that in animals, gamma-retroviruses can be oncogenic, i.e. cause cancer, but they were not believed to be able to infect humans, but recent findings with prostate cancer, and now, CFS,
tend to dispute this previous notion. Although no one is claiming yet that XMRV is the causative agent of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, at last, there is a possibility of a better explanation for this puzzling illness.
