@LicoriceLain numan stated in his book that this song is about obsession, and being so influenced by somebody you do things that otherwise would be completely beyond you.it also ends with a line about Jamie Bulger who was killed by two other children in Liverpool,England and how that could happen? And asks if that incident made people question their faith?R.I.P Jamie.
@hehfilms As for Numan, he isn't questioning. He knows (he is a Gnostic Atheist) there is no God of any kind. This song is exploring how it affects his life.
@hehfilms You are kind of simple, aren't you? :P jk "Heresy" has multiple layers actually, each of them more exploratory than an assertion of a theological position. As for him claiming to be Deist, that doesn't run contradictory to what I said. Deist is quite possibly the most ambiguous standpoint of them all as it could entail absolutely anything including a belief in the Christian God minus the rituals. So no, I am not off base here.
@hehfilms "Question of Faith" is more honest, I must say, though. I don't know about anyone else, but the more I listen to Reznor's music, the more I get a Christian vibe. The way he phrases things on his later albums just doesn't sound right for someone who isn't a believer.
This is a quality track back when Numan was good.
