I grow the mini spined prickly pear, i find it so easy to make another plant, but handling them, is a nightmare, its like they know what you are up to and attack at the first chance they get lol

@billisherenc btw this is not a true prickley pear, it's a relative of the Opuntia.

@josephdupont yes you can root the fruits. They don't root as often, but they will root.

@josephdupont I doubt the fruit will root. I don't think it'll work.

As always I love your videos. I live in Raleigh NC and have grown a Prickly Pear Cactus and it has grown so big and flowers and fruits every year. At first, one leaf died and the other did well, I found out that when growing them in a cold climate I had to create a dirt mound with sand so that when it rained or snowed during the beginning growth it kept the leaf high and kept it from dying of mold. I wish mine would grow as tall as your neighbors, mine just spread out.

@billisherenc From what I read I think there's at least a dozen species of Prickly Pears. Thanks for the info about taking care of them in a cold/snowy climate! I'm sure some people are wondering if they can grow them in winter, but if you can, it can happen! =)
