Thanks to doing 'Gardening/Plant video documentary', I am becoming more aware of the plants in my surrounding! For example, I never knew what kind of a cactus my neighbor has and when I found out that it's a Prickly Pear cactus, I jumped with joy! Lol. I tasted it's fruit for the very first time, even made a video and uploaded it on my channel. Now, in this video, I will show you how you can try to get it to root just by using pieces of the cactus! Enjoy! Don't forget to Rate and Comment. :)

  • can you root the fruit???

  • @josephdupont I doubt the fruit will root. I don't think it'll work.

  • As always I love your videos. I live in Raleigh NC and have grown a Prickly Pear Cactus and it has grown so big and flowers and fruits every year. At first, one leaf died and the other did well, I found out that when growing them in a cold climate I had to create a dirt mound with sand so that when it rained or snowed during the beginning growth it kept the leaf high and kept it from dying of mold. I wish mine would grow as tall as your neighbors, mine just spread out.

  • @billisherenc From what I read I think there's at least a dozen species of Prickly Pears. Thanks for the info about taking care of them in a cold/snowy climate! I'm sure some people are wondering if they can grow them in winter, but if you can, it can happen! =)

  • Thats very cool, I might want to experiment with a propagation like that, congrats on your success!

  • @twhiteartist Thanks! Let me know how yours turns out when you do it. ^^

  • @josephdupont No, i have tried over the years, but no joy.

  • I grow the mini spined prickly pear, i find it so easy to make another plant, but handling them, is a nightmare, its like they know what you are up to and attack at the first chance they get lol

  • Haha lets get another one!

  • BTW let it callous over and it will grow roots bubs.

  • @billisherenc btw this is not a true prickley pear, it's a relative of the Opuntia.

  • @josephdupont yes you can root the fruits. They don't root as often, but they will root.
