What an idiot...
He says it swaps in a new sector and swaps out the bad sector. Then he said that "fixes it".
It doesn't fix anything, it just ignores the bad ones.
It keeps trying and trying to recover bad sectors, which can most likely spread the damage..

it's really unfortunate that nobody every talks about the recovery abilities of this tool on a large scale. it's always about recovery of some bad sectors or something. well... once a hdd has failed, i don't see how it would help to fix a couple of errors. i would be more interested if it's low level read capabilities can help in rescuing at least some data from a drive that can't be fully restored any more.

This program is great, but he is SO FULL OF CRAP when talking about upnp and other Windows functions. He's just DEAD WRONG and every experienced computer expert agrees. Just check online for "steve gibson wrong" or "incorrect"

My only problem with SpinRite is that when I ran it, it wasnt able to recover my data, it erased the bad sectors that were marked by chkdsk, and made everything a lot worse. I am pretty confident that it will work with minor defects, but I was dealing with nearly 15% of the drive as marked bad.
Everybody should check out the "Security Now" Podcast.
