I finally got the chance to travel on the Class 379 Electrostar after seeing them in action at Cambridge back in August. This would also be my first ever trip on an Electrostar unit. I boarded the 13:45 Stansted Express service from Stansted Airport to London Liverpool St which was formed of units 379 022 + 379 024.
Our service is sheduled to cover the 36 miles to London in an average time of 45 minutes although in peak hours the trip takes slightly longer.
Here's a description of the trip which includes places not included in the video After departing from the airport we pass underneath it by means of a large tunnel before joining the West Anglia Main Line and passing through Stansted Mountfitchet Station. After a short while we slow down slightly to pass through Bishops Stortford Station (notice the Class 317 unit stabled in the bay platform) which is one of the intermediate stations served by the Stansted Express.
Then after passing through the stations of Sawbridgeworth and Harlow Mill (which has an aggregate terminal) we arrive at Harlow Town for our 1st out of 2 intermediate stops. After departure and rapidly picking up speed we begin to approach the Lea Valley area which has some nice scenary. The Heftford East branch diverges from the mainline between Broxbourne and Roydon.
Just after Cheshunt Station the Lea Valley lines join the mainline. The branch to Enfield Town diverges at this point as well as the loop line through Seven Sisters which is used as a diversion route for mainline trains if the direct route through Tottenham Hale is closed. Shorty afterwards we pass the Victoria Line depot at Northumberland Park which maintains the 2009 tube stock trains.
Northumberland Park station is just beyond the depot of the same name and then we arrive at Tottenham Hale for our 2nd and last intermediate stop. This station is a key interchange with the Victoria Line of London Underground.
After leaving Tottenham behind we soon pass through a long tunnel before passing through Hackney Downs Station where the loop line from Seven Sisters rejoins the West Anglia main line. The line at this point is elevated and we soon come alongside the Great Eastern Main Line at Bethnal Green Junction before decending the steep incline into London Liverpool St Station where our journey ends.
I hope you enjoy the ride.
@toppackage Awesome, i understand why you didn't film the cabride. Did you know that 379 001 ran along the GEML to Norwich on its 1st test run under its own power?

@Desiro360 thats great that 022 was on proper service for a change tho :D the driver approached me and said i can have ride upfront in it as im always following 379s, unexpected but technology in the cab is far superior to the 375s and 377s, didnt get any video of it tho as it would of been easy to trace whom the driver was just from that working :/
