@skywize Handicapped by a lack of education and exposure, but not an actual biological disability. I blame the atmosphere they're living in. There's some awful communities, especially in the south, where ignorance is thriving. A guy I work with, for example, didn't know who Isaac Newton was. This guy graduated high school, mind you. He didn't know how long it takes the Earth to travel around the sun. I've been shocked by what this guy doesn't know. America has shitty schools now.

@ninjajesus81 That, in itself, is a handicap. I have to consider someone with no knowledge of the world around him to be a moron. People don't need to know the name of every politician in their country, or know how to design rockets. They need to know, however, that there is more than one religion on this planet and science is your friend.

@skywize If you encounter some really ignorant people, they don't even know what an atheist is, let alone that they exist. These are the people who have the assumption that everyone they talk to is a fellow Christian (I mean, we're in America; a Christian nation, right?). Then when they find out you're not a Christian, they assume you're a Muslim or something else.
They're not all mentally handicapped or anything. Some are, but I think most are just extremely sheltered.

@victorseay "It's not my "job" to "save" them from ignorance" No, it's not anyones job to "save" theists. I, however, would like to show people why its wrong to tell my 6 year old daughter why it's wrong to tell her that her daddy is going to burn in hell unless she prays for me. Thats just a tame example. I like helping people to understand reality for what it is. I dont like my daughter crying herself to sleep because I'm going to hell and its all her fault.
