Newton Fellowships are available to mathematically sophisticated individuals who are interested in using their talents to make a difference in the lives of young people. MfA seeks recent college graduates and mid-career professionals who can demonstrate a strong interest in teaching, have a bachelor's degree with substantial coursework in mathematics, and are willing to commit to a five-year program that includes one year of full-time graduate study and four years of teaching mathematics in New York City secondary schools.

Year 1: Prepare to become a high school math teacher * Full tuition scholarship to master's level teacher preparation program at Bard College, New York University, or Teachers College/Columbia University * Student teaching experience * $28,000 MfA stipend

Years 2 - 5: Begin your teaching career * Position as secondary school math teacher in New York City public school * New York City teacher's salary + MfA stipends totaling $62,000 over four years * Mentoring, coaching and support services * Professional development and Newton Corps activities
