A tool-assisted speed run from http://TASvideos.org. I did not make this video.

NES Final Fantasy (USA) in 1:10:16.18 by Frank Amoroso (aka. TheAxeMan).

Final Fantasy is one of those games which needs no introduction to most gamers. For the rest of you, the game follows four generic heroes who are trying to restore the four orbs which have been contaminated, and ultimately defeat Chaos.
Unfortunately only one of the warriors is actually a hero; the rest are sissies who died early on during the quests. Strange as this may sound, much time is saved by doing so since fewer commands need to be entered every time the player runs from a random encounter.

This version is almost 3 minutes faster than the previous movie, predominantly by the use of a computer program to assist in battle planning and by walking in no-encounter areas more often.

  • @Stunktank 1 hour 12 minutes 59 sec 52/100 of a second

btw do you know how to hange the respond rate on wii vc, im doing my own lp of this soon

  • Wait it took him 1 day, 12 hours 59 minutes, and 52 seconds?

  • One with an axe is allways a hero to remember.

  • @shortylickens69 Assuming a player's hands were extremely fast, the controller could actually endure the inputs without breaking in half, and that the player got extremely lucky, this is theoretically possible to do on a console.

I've seen a video where someone wired a computer to an NES console and had the computer play the inputs used in a TAS of a game, with complete accuracy. The game was beaten in the same time, and all stunts were maintained. This isn't cheating.

  • @h2dennis He actually maintains that line in the version I have on my iPod Touch.

  • @shortylickens69 i would say its close to 5 hours

  • Thats a fantastic amount of successful flees and critical hits.

Appreciate what the poster did, but its technically not a speed run with cheats.

Whats the fastest run actually playing properly?

  • Oh, nes dialogue. "I will knock you down!"

  • I'm willing to bet hit high fleeing rate is due to save states.

  • Tool-assisted is for Tools.

  • What makes it so that his fleeing never fails?

  • Beating the wizards with 2 (35 HP) characters is IMPOSSIBLE without a cheat

  • The pause is probably just him setting a save state right before each round of combat. Most emulators have that ability. You press one key right before you do something and the computer keeps the "state" of the game at that moment in memory. Then, if your "something" goes badly, you press another key and the game reverts back to the original state and you can try it again. It saves a lot of time when recording walkthroughs and speed runs.

  • So ein scheiß

  • @fool1977: I have a feeling the pauses are him gaming the pseudorandom number generator.

It's obvious it isn't all human. It's tool assisted, meaning that you can do things that you couldn't do normally in game. Kinda like an uber gameshark only it doesn't rely on changing the codes of the game. The thing with the last attack is probably just something that happens with the TAS :P

  • So obviously this isn't possible unaided. I'm 32 and have played this game every few years since it came out and I can tell you that you cannot run from every single enemy like that. Also, what is that strange pause everytime he selects the last enemy?

  • Revive your d00ds, will ya!
