LA Opera's new season opened at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion on September 17 with Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin. Taking a cue from the opera's opulent Russian settings and from St. Petersburg's famous White Nights Festival, the black-tie occasion was celebrated with a White Night Opening Gala. After arrivals on the white carpet, guests were welcomed to an elegant white and crystal outdoor environment on the Los Angeles Music Center Plaza.
The Russian theme continued with imaginative vodka cocktails, decadent desserts and dancing at the after-party in the theater. Emmy Rossum, star of Showtime's "Shameless" as well as the film "The Phantom of the Opera," was the evening's Honorary Gala Chair for ARIA, LA Opera's group for young professionals. The evening was hosted by Plácido Domingo, LA Opera's Eli and Edythe Broad General Director, who welcomed guests including Laurence Fishburne, Gina Torres, Michelle Kwan and Michael Eisner.
