well, there were others before U-Roy... Count Matchuki, King Stitt were the big sound system deejays for Coxsone's Downbeat from the mid 50's onward. Sir Lord Comic had the very first deejay record "Ska-ing West" in 1966 - and then in the US you had James Brown "rapping" in the late 60's, plus groups like The Last Poets from the same time period..... so, U-Roy didn't come out of nowhere. still though, he is the don of modern deejaying - he took it to the next level.

nope. this is Lloyd Parkes (bass) & We The People band - Lloyd Parks had a hit in '72 with "You Don't Care", a retread of the earlier Techniques rocksteady classic.
