i dun think it's that either. there's a slight lag between vocalization and projection. what happens when someone does a live is they wear an earpiece that allows them to hear things before they're projected to the audience, which allows them to a) actually hear what's going on and b) tune their voices.

so in the end it goes like this step 1: sing into mic; step 2: playback thru earpiece (almost instantaneous) and finally step 3: sound comes out of the speakers (couple seconds later).
