  • great vid. What was your original car problems/symptoms. thanks.

  • @wildernesswandering2 The original problem is that I couldn't shift! I backed out of the driveway, then couldn't shift into first. The shift lever was completely loose.

  • GREAT VIDEO!!!

Where did you order the part?

    What's it called?

  • @bullfrogtooth I ordered the part on eBay from a user called saturnbushingman (Saturn Bushing Man), and the part is called "Improved Saturn Stick Shift Shifter Cable Bushing ".

  • How do you remove the plastic (middle console) to expose this

  • It's just Phillips head screws, very easy. The hardest part is slipping it out from under the front part of the console. Someone else has a really good video on it. Search "Saturn console removal" and it's the first video to come up, by richpin06a. The title is just "Automobile Console Removal".

  • what about the cable how you fix that

  • thanks so muchfor the video, this happened two days ago and this helped me so much, i just ordered the part from the guy on ebay.thanks again, really helpful

  • @alanlarue Wow the same thing happened to me last week! Thankyou so much for you video and the info for the part on ebay! I just put in my order with saturnbushingman!

  • Very helpful. Thumbs up.

  • @alanlarue Just happen to me last night...

  • Thank you! This was very helpful! I ordered that same part and will be getting it in a few days. Thank GOD for YOUTUBE!

  • thanks for posting where you got the part!! Ive been looking everywhere and they all want to sell me the whole cable assembly.

  • @whiteboybeats1 Thank you so much! My local NAPA didn't find it when I gave them that part # but they were able to look it up. $19, yessir!

  • My shifter fell apart just as I was in the middle of parallel parking. This bushing fixed the problem like a charm and I haven't had any problems since.

  • Thanks, my 94 SL1 is tough to shift into only first gear, could this be the same problem you were having?

  • Great video! The same thing happened to my 1998 Saturn SL2 @ roughly 110k miles. The technical name of the part needed is OE Solutions Manual Transmission Shift Cable Bushing (part #14043) available at Napa Auto Parts for $22.19. It looks like an easy fix. DO NOT BUY THE SHIFT CABLE ASSEMBLY FROM SATURN!!!!! They'll charge you $215.49 for a set of 2 cables. If your cables are fine, this bushing is all you need! I'm fixing mine tomorrow and will be on the road. Stay off the sidewalk!!!!

  • My car has been parked for 3 months because of the shift going out -- and fear that it was the tranny, so you don't know how glad I was to find your video! Even if none of this works, it's less than the cost of a tow, so I am extremely grateful -- and can hardly wait to order parts and try it.

  • @wildernesswandering2 hey, thanks for the quick reply. I will try that first, before I go messing inside the transmission. The richpin vids are helpful getting started. I know everytime I take it to a shop mechanic, it is always a $500 fix. no matter what. When you pull into their bay they need to charge that to stay n business. I think they cater to the wealthy, with the newer computerized cars, and probably just out of warranty. thanks gain.

  • @alanlarue Thanks...Looks like here the linkage is all over the place. my problem is 1st gear only, just won't shift in. Fluid fine. But doesn't go in while not running either. its not a clutch problem. Thinking might be contaminated fluid (air or water) or greasing the cables going into the tranny. The transmission shop said a $2000 job for mine. I have been reading on the syncros. I might look into that after the quick fix. I don't think I should spend that much on a $1500 car. thanks again

  • @wildernesswandering2 yea when it wasnt running it was going into gear no problem, and it did it in 1st through 3rd, so what i did was greased the shifter cables to the transmission and changed the tranny fluid and havent had any problem since, well i hvnt been driving it my dad has, but its fine now.

  • @speacialperson12345 Did it shift easily in the OFF position? not running. And did it only happen in one gear, like first, when your were having problems?

  • THANK YOU!!! I actually had already ordered the same part from that guy on ebay. I'm a chick and this was easy!!! The only thing I needed was a g-clamp I got from the 99 cent store!!! Had to ride my bike 30 min in the rain to get it but got it...clamped the piece on and wallaaaah!!! This video was super helpful! Beats the $300 my mechanic was gonna charge me. Thank you! :-) The console was super easy to put back on too. The whole thing together took me like 15 min....besides the bike ride...lol.
