ps if you kept watching the actual doc, mcenroe tells a story about being a lifelong yankees fan and deciding to cheer for the mets instead after he heard steinbrener apologize for his team losing the world series in 7 games. he said that's bullshit, the yankees have nothing to apologize for. all or nothing, or 99% instead of 100%, is a stupid philosophy. it's ok not to be the best all the time.

it's working out well. turns out 99% instead of 100% still gets you far in life. and it makes life much more enjoyable when you aren't constantly and inevitably disappointed by never reaching the impossibility of perfection. striving for perfection, and not achieving it, is different from striving for perfection and being told you aren't good enough
