Al Stewart with guest guitarist Doug Jackson perform a great acoustic version of Midas Shadow on August 3, 2007 at San Diego's tony new jazz venue, Anthology. The intro to the song includes one of Al's legendary stories about how he met John Lennon of The Beatles for the first time as a young seventeen year old in the United Kingdom

  • I love this song and this version does a good job. The Beatles story really adds to Al's performance, too.

  • That's a funny story!

  • Wait, there's a song with this, too?

  • @reh1959 Good point. Could be because he doesn't write songs that repeat themselves deliously, or use distorted sounds of thrashing metal or rap beats... It's a mystery, but he is one of the greatest songwriters ever.

  • Al is the man! Love his concerts, he's so approachable.

  • I grew up listening to Al Stewart and after 30 years finally got to hear him as gift from my brother for my birthday. That night hoping to see him we waited a hour but didn't so we stopped at the bar next door when who is sitting at a table filled with fans. I got Famous last words signed by Al and later he taps me on the shoulder and says you know I wrote this song. Great guy. He told this story that night so it was good to find it again.

  • .. I hear cuttlery and dishes and it annoyes me in the utmost.

(useless words I know - Al's performance would actualize in the worst circumstances)

  • Beauty! Yup, Al is underrated. There are few writers who can tell a story the way he can. (Come to Kansas City soon, will ya, Al?!)

  • bellissimo, amo Al Stewart con Nachmanoff e anche con il grande Peter White! grandi emozioni all'ascolto.

  • I love this man, one of the greatest poets/wordsmith/historian/songwriter of our time... and you're right re1959, i don't think he ever got the recognition he deserved.

  • Yes he is amazing - have you listened to his masterpiece all about different wines CD called 'Down in the Cellar' - try it
