@ConwayJCalvin I never said Daniel Day-Lewis was a method actor... And anyone that knows about acting is aware that Stanslavsky realized that sensory and emotional memory was flawed. He made many changes to his acting technique to the point it had nothing to do with those things. In fact, he's on record saying the only American teacher that understood his techniques were Stella Adler.

@ConwayJCalvin Thanks for keeping it civil...dick.

@ConwayJCalvin The problem is, if every actor in the business gave as much of a shit as Daniel Day Lewis, we would have some fucking good movies. But the work ethic is remarkably low and dare I say, just American. He's an inspiration, Gary Oldman, Christian Bale, THESE ARE ALL NON AMERICANS. FANCY THAT. They appreciate what a good day's work is worth, and what it's worth to do some thing extra. Johnny Depp is trying so hard to be a european rock and roll surrealist bullshitter...makes me sick.
-
@ConwayJCalvin And I know you didn't actually start talking about that, I just felt as though it needs to be said. And it is above and below me in these comments...but I guess I need to vent it out as well. Everyone calls DDL a "method" actor. He's just doing what he needs to do to convince himself of his character by dedicating everything he has towards it because he has no other purpose in this world.

@Samus1234567890 You're an idiot.

@spxeli Stanslavsky introduce many things that Lee Strasberg still uses today. Lee Strasberg has enhanced from there to make The Method, which includes relaxation, sensory and emotional memory. Which you need to use your imagination to recreate, rather than using imaginary circumstances/tools to create for yourself on the spot. TO say that Daniel Day Lewis is a "method" actor is wrong. He uses a method, in the definitive sense of the word but he's designed it himself.
-
@spxeli Yea he says in this interview he was taught Stanislavsky in school...but it's clear from later interviews that his approach to creation varies greatly from any method...which is why in many interviews he dispels the myth that he's intentionally trying to keep his approach "mysterious," but rather, he's just not quite sure how to objectify it. I just want to make sure it's known DDL should by no means be considered the "ultimate method actor." His art is far superior to method.
-
@LotharioRowe Are you sure? I'm pretty sure he studied Stanislavsky for like 4 years. Also, Stanislavsky and Strasberg were not remotely similar. Stanislavsky made many changes to his "method". It's focus was imagination where as Strasberg's method was effective memory.
-
@Samus1234567890 he is not method whatsoever. read up on Stanislavsky and Strasberg, and then watch more DDL interviews. He doesn't use steps and rules, he uses raw imagination.
daniel day > johnny depp?
please, daniel day is such a pure artist. His superiority to Johnny Depp is so obvious it doesn't even need to be said.

@enlargemedia I think it's unfair to compare the two. Johnny Depp is a great actor and a movie star but DDL is a profound actor, he is one of the most versatile, amazing and talented actors to ever grace the earth. He owns the craft. You just shouldn't compare. It's almost insulting.
