do I need to take the LCD off? or its it do able without it? on I ifixit they do not take off the  lcd form digitizer just removing the screw and operate form there

@ravi270783 So was it the proximity sensor ??? Did it solve the problem...how easy was it to do it yourself. My Problem is that the screen doesn't Shut off during a call..And it's really annoying when I my face starts muting and putting my call on hold. Let me know please.

My 3GS goes dark when I put it to my face and stays dark when I pull it away so I can not hang up or do anything. I have to wait for other person to hang up and wait or keep pushing top button till I hear the lock sound. Any ideas? Thanks

I have the exact same issue, but not sure if the problem is with the sensor or if the connection socket on the logic board went bad., May be even the logic board is not responding ?

I have ordered a new proximity sensor, will have to wait and see if this should do the magic.
