Ralph Bakshi's adaption of one and a half part of Tolkien's masterpiece.
Youtube, you better not try to get this deleted or may The Almighty Himself deal with you justly in the destiny he has woven for you.

  • I have this on VCR, I'm just too much a pussy to go in the attic to get it out.

  • I can appreciate this film for what it is... the only things that really drag it down are the hasty, glazed over plot and the portrayal of Sam as a bumbling sidekick (still pisses me off to this day).

  • Stop comparing the two equally. P. Jackson had 95 million dollars to play around with, highly doubt Ralph Bakshi had even a tenth of that, even taking into consideration inflation. NOT EVEN CLOSE. So appreciate it for what it offers, which is wonderful atmosphere and quite decent voice acting for an animated film. nuff said.

  • 7:50 Gandalf LOOKS LIKE HE'S TRIPPING BALLS!!!

  • @gentlerat Not a surprise in the least. Really too bad considering this project had so much potential, and I've no doubt that he knew that when he initially made plans to do this film. As said, animation was going thru a very dark period at that time...nobody, not even the House that Walt Built were willing to create anything of substance simply because they didn't think it was worth the risk to shell out all that money for something that had no hope of earning any profits.

  • @gentlerat I like to imagine him like Sean Astin's portrayal, except I don't know what gave people the idea that Sam was fatter than the other hobbits. This is never stated in the books.

  • @40Pacino Yeah, although to be fair Star Wars borrowed from a lot of things too. It just happened to be more diverse in it's borrowing, which is why it works as it's own thing.

  • @dubyajay13 Yeah, once you accept that they're though they're decent movies. I feel like he wanted to expand on things that were just a sentence in the books or hidden in some corner of the appendices (sometimes well, sometimes not, but he does it better than most fanfic writers).

  • @hinatagirl282008 Just keep in mind though that the Jackson Movies are a different thing from the book and should be considered as such (Frodo in pj's is more of a sad posessed guy than the sort of dude who would dance on a table for example).

  • @mrsgollum Same time period, so a similar aesthetic.

  • @MatOnRS Why not? Honestly I pictured Strider as black.

  • @Loshia2002 Even he didn't like the movie that much, which is why he never went ahead with a sequel (as per wiki).
