This is a terrible version of the fool. Not the actors fault, but the director doesn't get the role. John Hurt is much better.

@shayanaali I recommend reading all his lines and really understanding them. Figure out why they are clever, insightful and funny. Once you do that you should be in better shape

The Fool strikes the usual annoyingly false note but Hordern as Lear is really a revelation. Besides Scofield's performance on Caedmon this is the best that I've heard. (And I've heard Olivier, Gielgud, and Alec Guiness). And Goneril (Gillian Barge by the way according to Imdb) isn't bad either.

Hordern's Lear is breathtaking.

I knew Hordern first through the radio adaptation of Lord of the Rings some years ago (he played Gandalf, of course.) He is even better in person. I would have loved to have seen him live on stage.
