The cultural association of people descending from the village of Agio Pnevma in Serres that live in Thessaloniki released last year two CDs with traditional songs of the Darnakohoria region in Serres. The songs are performed by the choir of the association and i think they deserve a great bravo for their effort. The lyrics of the songs are mainly in the local dialect (even though in many instances standard Greek is used as well and i guess this happens because it was more suitable for maintaining the meter),so i provide a "translation" of the most unintelligible to a standard Greek speaker words and expressions.
Ο Christodoulos
This song describes the forbiden love between a Christian and a Jewish girl. There is a song with similar motive from Kastoria with different lyrics though, besides the first two verses. The known singer Nitsa Tsitra who also descends from a village of Serres (Aidonohori) participates in this song.

*Μπιρμπιλιώ/Birbilio=literally "playful girl",from Turkish "birbil" (playful) and the Greek female ending -ω.
*Σιλιγνιώ/Silignio=most likely from "σύλιγνος"/sylignos (συν+λιγνός/syn+lignos=absolutely thin) +the female ending -ω.
*να' ρχισι/na' rhisi= a variant of να έρχεσαι/na erhesai (you should come)
*Ουβριοί/Ouvrioi=a variant of Εβραίοι/Evraioi (Jews)
*γιουρτιρίζουν/yourtirizoun=a variant of γιορτάζουν/yortazoun (they celebrate)
*πάεισι/paeisi=a variant of πήγε/pige (he went)
*σκυλουβριοί/skylouvrioi=a variant of σκυλοεβραίοι/skyloevraioi=skylos (dog)+Evraioi
*καλούδα/kalouda=from καλή/kali (which is used sometimes as synonymous for "beloved","dear") and the female diminutive ending -ουδα/ouda,typicall of some Macedonian and Thracian dialects.
