1: Knowledge is a good thing. Get a degree in something not Ag related as a backup plan, and possibly as a way to get startup money for the farm.
2: Learn how to market grain. Start paper trading now. There is more money to be made by good marketing than there is in that extra 10 bushels per acre of yield.
3: Use Google Chrome. It has spell check and would have caught "dou" and "edvice".

@mx270a Why do you need to down the corn with the corn reel?

Funny how we always finish a field at the far, back corner. It never works out to finish by the driveway for some reason.
Great operation. Too bad you have that one green wagon. It clashes a little with all the red equipment!

farming looks so much easier than 60 years ago

Thanks MX, I find this stuff interesting and I got to start somewhere. You made me work with ADM abbreviation but I deduced it was Archer Daniels Company after doing a quick search. Well thanks again your videos are real good!
I'm just a backyard gardener of corn. Can somebody tell me why the corn is being picked when the stalks are all brown? When I pick my corn everything is still green.
Thanks,

@jonasnight The corn needs to be dry to store it, and it only dries down when the plant is dead. I'm guessing you are thinking of sweet corn, which is harvested before it is fully mature.

@mx270a
Thanks MX, Like I said I'm just a backyard gardener at this point. Do you want your corn dry so you can feed it to animals or can it? I'm curious as to why it has to be dry in the first place. THanks,

@jonasnight This corn will mostly go to ADM and be turned in to ethanol, corn syrup, etc. It has to be below 15% moisture to store for any length of time. For example, at 19% moisture, it will only keep for 3-4 days. It is a lot different than the sweet corn that you buy in a can or eat right off the ear.
