I wrote this song in 2004. I went for a walk along Ramsgate beach after two months in bed with depression. The sky was stormy and it was rainy. I found a whole school of starfish that had been washed up onto the beach that afternoon. The song is from a ten verse ballad that I wrote on the beach that afternoon whilst throwing back into the water any living starfish I could find. Later in 2005 when I made a video for the song, a woman I met on the day told me that a buddhist monk had told this as a spiritual story on the Terry Wogan morning show broadcast in that week. She asked if I had heard it but I hadn't. It was interesting that the monk had seen the same paralell and it confirmed to me that the principal of persistance in the face of adversity was a fundamental part of our human nature. A video was made in 2005 and was finally edited in 2006.
