The SS were the elite soldiers during the nazi regime. Their extreme fanaticism, tactics and groundbreaking weaponry made them dangerous adversaries. Whilst they undoubtedly committed the majority of the nazi atrocities during the war, special forces normally operate with a flexible approach to the rules of war. Fortunately most don't indulge in the murderous and abhorrent behaviour attributed to the SS.
