Today is Remembrance day. It has been a tradition to wear a red poppy. For me, the purpose for today is to remember the cost of wars and the sacrifices soldiers and veterans made on behalf of our country. However, it is also a grave reminder that war, destruction and foreign occupation should not occur recklessly, we should take caution that some lives have been taken away for other non virtuous goals, that the media and some of us has glorified our military and glamorized violence, and the sacrifices soldiers made and continue to make are not always worthy of the ideals we hold. Finally, we should realize that we are not always the one who is on the good side; we might be waging aggression and occupying another country for other less noble purposes, like greed, power and political control. I do know that my right to free speech is advanced by the sacrifices some of our soldiers have made in WAR WORLD TWO, and I do pay my respect, as my right to speech should also be respected by those whom disagree with me.

I also wish that Californians would have paid more attention to their own human right campaign to defeat prop 8, instead of campaigning for Obama when all the polls are showing that he will win big on Election Day, which is what happened on November fourth. The proposition to take away civil rights from a marginalized group of people in the state of California angers me greatly, I thought it was a progressive spotlight in America.

  • All we hear in relation to remembrance day is how our soldiers sacrificed for our freedoms, not about how horrible war is and how it should always be a last resort, ie. when our country is attacked by another country. The way almost every single person in the media walks in lockstep wearing poppies shows how controlled our media is. Most of our media is controlled by only a few companies, and all are licensed by the CRTC, which can take their license away if they get too honest.

  • Media concentration is one reason i do not take mainstream news seriously.

  • Over here in America people think its just the US Troops Policing the world. In reality its the United Nations of each country. That sends there troops to other country. So saying are troops you are correct. Its funny that the world thinks its just the US Troops doing the war. Wrong all nations of the UN are also guilty of this war to. Its easy to blame it on one man. But when you see the real picture. All US,Canada,Europe,Asia any one from the UN members are GUILTY. I hope people wake up soon.

  • What's good for Vancouver is not necessarily what's good for Toronto, unfortunately! And Ontario is a "have not" province now, yay. I have not.

  • Damn them, but we can still take anyone who's not an east coaster.
