"Nick. Nick. NICK!" Nick was startled back to reality by the sound of Selena's voice.
"Sorry, what?" Nick said as he turned his attention back to Selena, his ex-girlfriend.
"You were doing that drooling thing again!" She exclaimed in a less than patient tone.
Nick looked undisturbed.
"You have to stop spying on Miley and her boyfriend. If they weren't so caught up in each other, Evan would have you squashed like a pumpkin! Stop staring. It's not nice." Selena said briskly. Her voice had a slight, strained edge. "And plus, it hurts people's feelings..."
Nick felt a little bit bad. He knew Selena had let him go because she knew how he really felt Miley and that there was no way that she could ever mean that much to him as a girlfriend. He shifted so that Miley and Evan were out of his view. "I'm sorry."
Selena looked down at her lap. "I'm not heartless you know."
"I know," he said softly. "You've told me that."
She felt her eyes fill with tears and she sighed.
"NICK! SELENA! Hi Guys! It's that time of the year again! It's almost Homecoming and the Homecoming Dance of course. I hope you two are ready! Come buy your bids at the senior class office down by BA-100. Toodles!" A senior AJ (Michalka) chirped before turning away in her cheerleading uniform.
"Wow. That's awkward." Nick said after AJ had walked away. "I wonder what kind of suit I should wear that Miley would like."
"UGH!" Selena exclaimed loudly. She grabbed her books, bag and lunch and walked away. Enough was enough. IF Nick was trying to be a dick, he was doing a great job.
