Local New York band performing "Celtic Symphony," a tribute to (imho!) the greatest football club in the world. The camera work is befitting of any Celtic supporter when such a song is played, and despite its erratic quality, manages to capture the exuberant atmosphere of the show and day. A salute to Celtic supporters worldwide from New York!
CELTIC SYMPHONY
It was far across the sea,
When the devil got a hold of me,
He wouldn't set me free,
So he took my soul for ransom,
Na-na, na-na, na na...
I'm a sailor man from Glasgow town,
I've roamed this world around and round
He's the meanest thing that I have found
In all me days of wandering
Na-na, na-na, na na...
And then he looked me in the eyes,
It's then he took me by surprise,
Take me to your Paradise,
I want to see the Jungle
Na-na, na-na, na na...
Here we go again (here we go!) ,
We're on the road again.
We're on the road again,
We're on our way to Paradise.
We love the jungle deep,
That's where the lion sleeps
And though [or "for then"] those evil eyes,
They have no place in Paradise...
Graffiti on the walls,
Just as the sun was going down,
I see graffiti on the walls,
Up the Celts! up the Celts!
["Celts" pronounced here with a soft c]
Graffiti on the walls,
It says we're magic,
We're magic,
Graffiti on the walls,
Graffiti on the walls
It says oh ah up the 'RA,
Say ooh ah up the 'RA.
Ooh ah up the 'Ra,
Say ooh ah up the 'Ra...
We went to each jungle deep,
For the Paradise that we did seek,
T'was no trip for the weak,
There danced among the natives,
Na-na, na-na, na na...
From the Amazon to Borneo,
From Africa to Tokyo,
To the darkest jungles of the world,
But nowhere could I lose him.
Na-na, na-na, na na...
Around in circles every way,
He turned to me and he did say,
"I think you're leading me astray,
I want your soul, me boyo!"
Na-na, na-na, na na...
Here we go again (here we go!),
We're on the road again.
We're on the road again,
We're on our way to Paradise.
We love the jungle deep,
That's where the lion sleeps
And though those evil eyes,
They have no place in Paradise.
Graffiti on the walls,
Just as the sun was going down,
I see graffiti on the walls - [ad lib!]
Shilelagh Law, Shilelagh Law!
Graffiti on the walls,
It says we're magic,
We're magic,
Graffiti on the walls,
Graffiti on the walls.
It says ooh ah up the 'RA,
Say ooh ah up the 'RA.
Ooh ah up the 'RA,
Say ooh ah up the 'RA.
Background:
The song is an anthem of Celtic Football Club (Celtic pronounced with a soft "c" a la the Boston Celtics), a Glasgow-based club founded by an Irish emigrant community in 1888, which was comprised largely of Famine refugees and their descendants. Celtic's greatest triumph came in 1967 when the club won all 5 competitions it entered into (an unprecedented feat), including the European Cup where they defeated Inter Milan 2-1 in Lisbon, Portugal. The team became known as the Lisbon Lions, hence the reference in "Celtic Symphony" to "where the lion sleeps." Celtic Park is located in a section of Glasgow called Parkhead, and is also commonly referred to as "Paradise," an indication of the reverence with which the club and its home turf is regarded. The team's famed green and white hooped jersey is a widely recognized symbol of Celtic FC.
