This annual day-long extravaganza was held on June 4, 2011 to promote responsible dog ownership and included educational booths, apartment housing for dog owners, bandanas for dogs (with in-kind donation), facepainting by C-Snip, carnival games ran by American Cancer Society and Cran-Hill Ranch, demonstrations of various types including but not limited to obedience and rally matches by Paws Unlimited, Inc. Grand Rapids Area Canines Club, drill team by BOW-WOW BUNCH 4-H, retrieving, canine freestyle dancing, search and rescue, lure coursing demonstrations, micro-chipping by Spay Neuter Express, Police Canine Unit and more!
Additionally, Canine Good Citizen evaluations were conducted, rescue groups and vendors were available to offer information regarding services and products. The Police Canine Unit conducted demonstrations. There was also carnival games and concessionaires with great food. A FREE doggy bag or a t-shirt was given to those that donated at least 5 pounds of dog food, cat food or bird food! Contributions of food received were donated to Humane Society of West Michigan.
Prizes and "goodies" were available to attendees and contest winners of Dog Day In The Park! Exciting contests were judged by Dr. Karyl Ropko, DVM of Northeast Cat & Dog Hospital. Each winner received a ribbon and the BEST DOG received a rosette ribbon. The contests were:
Fastest Kisser in 60 seconds * Best Trick * Longest Ears * Waggiest Tail * Best Vocal Styling * Costume Contest
