This is actually the original end of the film. The Censor Board at the time found the scene too horrific. So Ramesh Sippy had to go back on location and re-shoot it, with the cops turning up randomly and stopping Thakur from taking the law into his own hands. Sippy was convinced that this new ending would surely be hated by audiences, and his movie would flop. History however, had other plans for Sholay :-)
