George Gershwin wrote this in 1937 for the film "Shall We Dance", in which Fred Astaire & Ginger Rogers sang it while roller skating! The short, staccato phrases in the first 16 bars and last 8 contrast with the flowing melody in the middle 8.

I've arranged it in C - the main theme fits neatly under the fingers - with some barred chords for the middle 8 - and there's a nice little tag at the end of each chorus. The middle of the three choruses has a bit of a Bill Broonzy feel to it - just for fun! I've also added two extra and slower, separate choruses. The first chorus shows the fretting hand, with chord names superimposed over the screen; the second shows the picking hand.

  • Absolutely, and the heading above the clip is spot on but the title at the start of the clip has Lets'... Sorry, we're brushing up on grammar - hence spelling of tomato/tomatoes and potato/potatoes and at the same time had been thrashing apostrophes. Some of the kids had never heard the song and your clip came up after Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire. Been playing guitar myself for 22 years and as I said, love your work.

  • @kingoaxe Bugger! slip of the keyboard - must put it down to my old, arthritic fingers... :-)

  • Love your work but my class (10R) was disappointed with your use of the apostrophe. Rock on.

  • @kingoaxe "Let's" is an abbreviated form of "Let us" - wrong? No. :-)

  • Great... and what is extra pleasing is that the sound and the camera are of good quality,

nothing like some other rubbish posted on the tube.

  • I'm using a Sony HD camcorder for the video, and a Roloand 8-track digital recorder with Shure SM58 mic for the sound, and mixing it all together with iMovie on my Mac Book Pro. :-)
