ANCHOR:
U.S. President George W. Bush and his wife Laura popped in to Windsor Castle for tea with the Queen. Bush is winding up the final leg of his farewell European tour.

STORY:
After dinner with the French President it was time for tea with a Queen.

Over the last week President Bush has been saying goodbye to some of Europe's most powerful leaders.

The President seemed in jovial mood as he arrived in Britain - the final stop of his European farewell tour.

Bush has won some support in the UK for turning up the pressure on Iran over its nuclear program. But in the waning days of his Presidency, there's a `who cares' attitude among many in Britain.

From Heathrow the President and his wife Laura were whisked away by helicopter to Windsor Castle where they were met by Queen Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh.
She's an experienced tour guide having entertained nine previous U.S. presidents.

There were some demonstrations against the war in Iraq during the President's two-day visit to the UK which included dinner with Britain's Prime Minister Gordon Brown.
Iraq was thought to be on the agenda at the meeting.

But either way Bush no doubt gathered some useful material for the memoirs he's reported to be writing.

  • To have tea with Her Majesty is so exquisite. It's too bad the Queen sometimes cannot really chose better, more educated guests. But she does it so niecely it seems she doesn't mind. Long live out most guestful Queen!

  • @toxic2k7 - The country has not belonged to the Royals since we took it from them by force in the English civil war (1642–1651). We allow them to return as ceremonial heads of state only. The country belongs to the people and is ruled by who we elect. Remember it is the government that told the Queen to invite him to teas she doesn't just do it herself. But I agree if the elected government invited him then he is welcomed by the nation.

  • @gazref Indeed! how about we stop giving millions of pounds of aid to Israel which gives us nothing back apart from bad publicity and enemies...
