The beginning titles of famous BBC evening news 'Nationwide'. Background music is 'The Good Word' by Johnny Scott, which was used in 'Nationwide' from September 1972 to the Autumn 1978.

It is so glamourous and dramatic. The tune made you feel that your day to day life was important somehow. I seem to remember the serious news was on at 5.35pm. Reporting Scotland (in my case) at 6 and this was afterwards. It was actually a fabulous programme, the like of which we have not seen since. All before this rolling news nonsense as well.

Brilliant - so nostalgic! The One Show on BBC1 is successful because it is a modern day interpretation of Nationwide!
