Really cool work with this dog (saw him in the BAT video too)! Question, though - why the 3 clicks during the nose work? I understand using a click/reinforcer pair to encourage the seeking behavior during initial training or to mark that the correct bag has been selected later. However, by the point we see in the video, the behavior is already been developed with the ball acting as the reinforcer, so it seems like the clicks would be extraneous and possibly distracting. What am I missing?

This is amazing for this dog! WOW WOW WOW WOW! Peanut used to be really afraid of people and kids, and his brilliant trainer basically developed a training program that would change his life. Grisha, he just looks SO HAPPY! Amazing, well done.
Virgquest, I never noticed that! Thanks for asking. I'm not actually clicking for Peanut here--it's someone else training their dog off camera. It's pretty well timed for the first two empty searches, though!
I never click without reinforcing, and he wouldn't need any reinforcement for sniffing in the wrong bag, anyway. I do often use the clicker with nosework, when transferring from toy/treat to a particular odor or object.
