  • You must not understand how the splash screen works, for one it has a limited resolution, and limited colors. Also this animation would likely add to the boot time, which is not in Canonical's interest.

  • TheJackDTH -> Wrong! The new Xsplash has no limited resolution or limited colors. It uses the X server which also displays your desktop.

  • madsrosendahl, even with Xsplash this animation would add to the boot time, and likely require 3D acceleration. Again, not in Canonical's interest.

And unless Xsplash loads the proprietary drivers required by many video cards at startup, before the animation starts, we still have a limited resolution, and possibly limited colors.

  • The Xsplash uses a multiframe .PNG image which means that no 3D acceleration is needed. I already created two versions with some of animation from my other suggestions.

    KMS isn't proprietary.

Of course it will increase the boot time. Can you mention a boot screen that doesn't?

  • Great job!

  • Great job!

  • Very cool.

  • AWESOME.

  • Can't apply custom splash screens in 9.10. They changed how GDM works.

  • wowo this amazing... can i download this one :)

  • Very nice, good use of animation and of colors. The one they went with being all white makes it look like they're just trying to copycat Apple. Of all I've seen this should have been the default.

  • why didn't they choose this one instead?
