Paul Whiteman "Pardon My Southern Accent"

Played for you on a 1927 Orthophonic Victrola Credenza, using a high quality Brass reproducer and period Tungs-Tone stylus. Victor "Scroll" records were electrically recorded and engineered to work hand in hand with the Victor Talking Machine Company's "Orthophonic" phonographs. Note how this deluxe machine of its day shuts itself off when the record is done playing!

It is our intention with this series, to bring you the exact sights and sound enjoyed by wealthy people of the mid to late 1920's -- no electronic filtering, scrubbing or other enhancements -- just the pure vintage sound, including the whir of the crank being wound. All of our friends who visit us and hear the Credenza are astonished by its rich, warm tone and its subtle and complex dynamic output. Notice that the harsh scratchiness often associated with pre- WWII recordings simply is not there when the record is played on the equipment for which it was designed. Enjoy!
