This video is a gift to one of the YouTubers, Michael (joey75220). This video demonstrates shows you the steps to set your D80's pop-up flash as the commander for Nikon Creative Lighting System (C.L.S.) with both flashes of Nikon SB-600 and SB-800.

This video also apply to D70 / D70s / D80 / D200 / D300 / D300s / D700 because these D-SLR's are compatible with Nikon Creative Lighting System feature using built-in popup flash.

D1 / D2 / D3-Series / F-Series do not have pop-up flash and does not have internal Nikon Creative Lighting System feature but you can do one of these: use a flash unit as a master flash (SB-800 or SB-900 only), use a SU-800 Commander, or use a Pocketwizard unit to trigger the remote flashes.

D3000 / D5000 / D40 / D40X / D50 / D100 does not have internal Nikon Creative Lighting System feature but you can use the popup flash in manual mode and set the SB-800 / SB-900 for SU-4 mode then set the SB-800 / SB-900 for manual OR you can pair it up with Pocketwizards and it will fire, no problem.

Enjoy!

  • my Built-in flash text on the screen is Highlighted it Doesn't let me go to the next menu...is telling me that is Not available on this settings

  • Enter Manual mode then pop up the flash before going into the menus.

  • does this system works with the nikon sb-r200?

  • If your camera has built-in commander mode, yep.

  • thank you! I couldn't find this anywhere in the manual. You rock.

  • @Anujzeer it's not a problem because that's your D80's x-sync limit. you can override it by enabling auto-FP (#25: auto-FP: on/off). that's only if your speedlight supports auto-FP too. this video will help: youtube.com/watch?v=Sqf3TM-WGTE

  • hey everybdy :) i got a problem i cant put shutter speed mode rather than 200 and lower does any body can help me with this plz thnks :)

  • Excellent.. Awesome.. Thanks

  • @apprec8ive lol that's the whole point of this video: wireless flash.

  • How come you didn't mount-the flash onto the camera? or can that not be done

  • @nelj0904 yeah, it's disabled, a pre-flash is needed in order to trigger the slave flashes. this onboard flash's pre-flash sometimes shows up in the pictures. you can use nikon SG-3IR panel to block the onboard light completely but can still trigger remote flashes.

  • I have a d80. I put the built in flash mode on -- but the built in flash still goes off. Why is that? I thought that mode disabled the built in flash? Im using the sb600 as well.

  • thank you thank you thank you!!!!!

  • @Lilkiwiguy87 thanks so much is a great lesson...thanks for the answer
