We continue this series on Democracy. What shapes does it take? What effects does it have? What are the most democratic areas of your life? What are the least democratic areas of your life? Is the difference decided by you or someone else? If the "democratic surge" of the 1960s saw a marked decrease in voter participation, what did the democracy look like? Democracy is Revolutionary! • Interesting that you had lots of pictures of black people standing up for their rights. You do know that the union movement was virulently against blacks competing effectively with white workers don't you? And that they repeatedly used violence against blacks for daring to work at jobs unionists wanted?

Oh and the reason union jobs are safer is because union jobs are high productivity jobs and therefore jobs where the boss doesn't want to lose workers to safer competitors.

  • Thanks for sharing your ignorance with everyone. The fact is, if you ever care to educate yourself, that there were always elements within the Labor Movement that included blacks, women, native Americans, and other minority groups. Your claim is complete nonsense based on ignorance. If you'd like to learn more I suggest you study the history of the IWW

  • What's the difference between democratic workplaces, democratic decision making among friends, and democratic government?

Two of those relationships are voluntary, one is not. That's why I have no problem supporting the first two, but not the third.

  • Fucking brilliant. Fanstastic work Buddhagem. It's inspiring me to make more videos.

  • Unions are good, but they start to get dangerous when they have political power. Then it really becomes tyranny of the majority forcing its will on the boss.

  • Democracy is the only hope for the future of our society. We need to work to incorporate democracy as much as possible.

How do you feel about worker cooperatives?

  • the way you speak is very similar to noam chomsky, the focus you put on individual words and the pauses you make.

  • wow dude, this made sense in the 60's and 70's when we still had those jobs, the big boss'es moved them to china where there were unions who worked cheaper, look at any U.S. city and see what the unions became, look at detroit for example, wasteland, look at flint, come on dude, stop living in the past

  • what unions? we largely are de-industrial and those jobs are in china, whats left are some service jobs and very few traditional manufacturing jobs, so will you need to move to china soon to be in a union?

  • in exchange of your choice to listen to how he wants his company run. Now, it is true that safety is lacking, but there are ways you can put a stop to unsafe practices without a union. Every workplace by law has to have OSHA's number posted if you have a complaint about safety. With this democracy, you have the choice to even try to start your own business and be the boss yourself. So the union is an easier way to accomplish what one person, due to laws pushed by the union granted, can do.

  • Very good points on your video. I can't say that I 100% agree with you on most of what you said when it comes to unions, but what you said is true when it comes to the theoretical use of the unions. Democracy is basically the freedom of choice to do with your life as you see. Now, this means that you now aren't forced to live a certain way, so you are shielded by the consequences of your choices. You choose to work for the boss. If not, the consequences are obvious. He gives you money...

  • Hey buddhagem... this kind of reminds me of some things talked about in "Capitalism and other kids stuff." If you haven't seen it, you really should look it up on here.

  • 3:38 the real news network did a story on how in America our percentage of people that are i unions is down to 7%...

    thats pathetic

  • FDR made a joke once about how republicans get elected. they think they can get elected if only the voter turn out is Low enough..
