Whether the Obama presidency can put and end to racism in US . The panelists discuss various aspects of "racism" in depth and generally favor Obama's ascendance to office.
if we are all the same race then racism would have been ended by now because someone would have made a race change machine and nobody would have argued against it because presumeably we are all the same creature but if we are then how come people are so upset about if they could change themselves.. because they don't see it that way obviously..
(cont) HE was not alive back then, his ancestors were not slaves (his dad is recently from africa and his mom is not african at all). so why do people associate obama's presidency with a triumph over past injustices, when in reality no such connection exists? because of RACISM. some people feel guilty with white skin because they are RACIST! they feel relieved to support a "black" pres because they are RACIST! no, racism is still very much alive, in its more sublte and socially acceptable form
calling obama "black" IS racist. identifying anyone based on their skin color and placing them into an imaginary group (aka the concept of "race") IS RACISM. racism doesnt only apply to being negative or hateful, like we often think. saying "i love black people" is still a racist statement. people say that america is somehow better now that we have a "black" pres, after all of that slavery and segregation. what does obama have to do with slavery or segregation? ...
