One of the ways that Audacity is useful for language teaching is in the ability to slow down audio files to make them easier to understand. This video demonstrates how to record a news broadcast from NPR and then slow it down for an ESL class.

  • If you use "change tempo" rather than "change speed" you can slow down or speed up the track without changing the pitch.

  • Good point - reducing tempo by 15% works well.

  • i found it easier to reduce the speed by -10 and the pitch up by 6 and it seemed to work pretty well
