I remember that many didn't like that the people transformed this way and into actual wolves, not wolf-men. Well the director wanted, as far as I know, something more closer to actual folklore and she did. That is how actual folklore werewolves really looked most of the time. The "wolfman" shape was reserved for the dog-headed people.
