Where are the benevolent developers, building these kinds of communities? Think about cohousing on a nationwide, accessible scale. It can bring the DD and nonDD together; create jobs; self-sufficiency. Why aren't rich celebrities concentrating on the truly dependent in their own nation? Why aren't huge corps digging in and helping? Why do churches support others in far-flung lands but not their own? Where's the TRUE progressive thought & action to help those who genuinely need us...and a home!

As the sole caretaker of my adult (43 yr. old) brother w/Down syndrome, my greatest concern & fear is what will become of him should I predecease him (I'm 54). Why are there not L'Arche & other cohousing communities--featuring dev. disabled adults as their star residents--across the USA? Where's the stimulus $ for this? Why did the national DS Society not defend Trig Palin & all like him during the election? Where's the widespread care about CITIZENS who are dependent thru no fault of their own?
