As Salamu Alaikum sister I am from Trinidad which as you know is vry close to Guyana and I am half Indian decent and half african decent. I have reverted to Isalm about a year ago and it is nice to learn how to style my hijab from someone who shares my flare for style and colour. yes, our ancestors are definitely from India. i think i remember my grandpa saying his roots were from Punjab but i am not too sure.
