@good2goskee I think the real pawn of todays global scene would be the US. Coincidently they are threatening and beating on virtually any country that speaks out against Israel.

I think it will only be a matter of time before the US starts imposing sanctions or threatening Turkey as well. The real mix up will then come with Russia/Iran entering the scene. Iran may want to aid Turkey as an Anti-Israel supporter, and Russia will support Iran, then a real mess will be created.

@good2goskee As for my comment from 11 months ago which you read first, I think clearing up the context would be constructive to the discussion. When I said it is not a pawn, I meant militarily, the were never coerced into entering wars on any nations behalf except for commitments such as NATO or humanitarian/justified causes. They did not enter controversial wars like Vietnam, and Iraq - They did what was best for themselves, hence the argument of not being a pawn.

@good2goskee I would be inclined to agree with you about a decade ago, however that is not the case anymore. Turkey is doing whats best for Turkey, and turning away from both the EU and the US, and creating ties with other nations. This is not sucking up - this is creating friendships with other nations that will not be influencing it to be a pawn or making it jump through hoops like the EU and US do.

@vvbn7890 pawned= dominated=highly influenced. (economically/militarily and often politically) EU is a unit, USA is a unit. Turkey is a unit. The EU unit and the US unit has vastly more influence on Turkey than Turkey does on EU or USA. The point is about persuasion/influence/indirect control

@good2goskee I still dont see your point. Again, I never said Turkey is EU's largest trade partner. Also factor in that EU has many countries within it that individually sum up Turkeys trade % with EU. Suppose we took away the likes of India, Mexico, Canada, Japan and China from the US....What would happen to the US economy? That is the point I am making to you.

And again, of course Turkey sided with NATO - Russian tension was still high with them after WW1. Why wouldnt they?

@vvbn7890 the proportion of trade between the EU nations to Turkey as a whole is much smaller than Turkish trade is to EU/USA as a unit. 25-30% of Turk ecomony depends on either the USA or EU. However, EU/USA total trade with Turkey is much less than 25-30% as a whole. That means Turks are far more dependant on the US/EU ecomomically than they are on Turkey. It is easy to see (google) the reason why Turkey ran to NATO -b/c of the Soviet threat in the 50s and 60s.

@good2goskee What is your point? EU is one of Turkeys top trading partners. Tell me USA or any EU nation would be just fine if you immediately cut off their top trading partners. That applies to everyone, not just Turkey.

Secondly, Turkey is not a pawn. Armenians are close allies with Russia - they are enemies of the Turks. Why wouldnt the Turks take NATOs and the US's side when it is to their benefit? Your msg is pointless. Any logical nation would do what the turks are doing.

If the USA & EU pulled trade with the Turks that economy would be reduced by 25-30% which would reduce Turkey's economy back to developing nation status
