Wow, Arlo's cover of Joe Dassin's arrangement of Steve Goodman's original. I think I like all three versions - each is adding something to the song.

I think this is one of the most important songs ever written. It certainly should have been the theme for our 1976 Bicentennial Celebration. You sure got the gooduns jguth3.

My wife and I love to travel by train. If you haven't done it, give it a try. It's special. We've traveled coast to coast many times, and this song makes me cry.

VexZyen, your comment made me realize where I remember this song from. about a year and a half ago, when I first started listening to music more than once a year (no kidding) my dad told me that he used to rock me to slep at night with this song when I was reeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaallllllllllll lllllllyyyyyyyyyy little. Widely regarded as the best railroad song ever written and sung.

Same here, my dad used to sing and play it on guitar to me when I was young. He knew a bunch of songs but this is one of the only ones I remember. Such a good song, no wonder it stuck.
