It's likely that the presence of the camera crew contributed to the accident by being such a distraction for the drivers.

actually, that is why I love roundabouts, although usually they seem to have a raised center, not a pit. But bad drivers crash into that, instead of innocent oncoming traffic. Those people will crash no matter what, at least this way they only hurt themselves.
