What he meant to say is "it transfers energy which would *otherwise* be turned into heat back into the battery".

How does it use heat to generate power? I thought under throttle lift off and during braking the drive wheels were used to turn the electric motor therefore acting as a generator and feeding power back into the batteries topping them up, therefore recouping energy that would otherwise be lost during braking through friction/heat...or am I wrong?

0:24 ----> this guy is a moron.......a brake rotor doesnt "squeeze against a disc".......the rotor is the disc......brakes pads squeeze against !!
Plus, the heat produced from regenerative braking does NOT recharge the batteries......its the mechanical energy of the spinning generator that produces electrical energy which recharges the batteries.
Where did they find this idiot?
Oh wait.....it's Toyota.....now I understand.

he def does not know what he is talking about or is explaining it very wronge heat does not make the power it is the backword ressistance on the motor to recharge the battery
