Looking for a financial advisor? Steve Pomeranze from OnTheMoney Radio talks about some things you should consider:
What is this persons experience? Do they sell investments? What is their compliance history (easy to find online!)?
Make sure the investor takes the entire picture of your financial situation You dont want recommendations that only put you in one product or another; you want an advisor who looks at the long term view.
Some components they should be asking you:
What your income is; how stable your current working situation is; how much youve saved up in assets; how close you are to retirement; what your risk tolerance is; your feelings on the economic crisis of last year; family history- how many children you have; lifespan of your parents, etc.
All of this should get synthesized into a large picture of who you are and what you need to be financially successful.
