Since I live a short distance from Rockerville, i'll pass along a few tidbits of information. First of all, Rockerville, most recently was a tourist town, that never caught on and went under. For a number of summers, it sat decaying, as witnessed in that first old house you see, with the roof falling in.

Several of the small places, the saloon and the restaurant were simply closed when they couldn't make money at it anymore. It's sad, I can imagine it was fun in the long ago days.

@ruckus1972 It is Rockerville. on Hyway 16 between Hill City and Rapid City in the Black Hills

Very interesting video. Is that group of people working the creek in the club you belong to?

@blackhillsdulcimers Yes, we are the Black Hills Prospectors, the machine is the club's trommel machine. It can work a lot of gravel in a short time. The gold is devided amoung the people that work it, and used for the raffel at the end of the year party. We have a number of claims in the hills. That claim is called the "Garnet", and we always get a lot of small garnets. It is in the hills above Rockerville.

Thanks Harry, there is less left of these towns every year, the old hotel is gone now. I'm trying to document as much of this stuff as I can.

Love ghost towns and gold! Used to live in Colorado where both can be found quite easily...wish I had spent more time panning and metal detecting back then...

Nothing goes together like gold and ghost towns. Good job on finding the gold flakes and the picker, could be worth millions the way things are going ;) haha.
