This wonderful song, so packed with emotion, is from the great songwriting team, Paul Williams and Roger Nichols. "Let Me Be the One" was featured on the album, Carpenters, in 1971 and later included in The Carpenters - The Essential Collection (1965-1997) (2002) and Carpenters Gold: 35th Anniversary Edition, a two-disc compilation (2004) all on A&M Records. It is among my very favorite Carpenters' songs.

  • someone needs to do something to the one who called Karen fat.

  • I have to say, among all of the Karen Carpenters songs, that has haunted my ears for years, and has filled my eyes with tears, and my heart with love and sorrow, this song is perhaps my Favorite of all time. I just don't know why. I love so many like I do this one. It just goes straight through my heart and soul, like a knife. Just absolutely awesome. But as much as I try, there are no the words that can begin to comprehend, and give justice to Karen Carpenter's songs, and her haunting voice.

  • What a voice....special , special, girl with an angels voice.

  • Didn't ABC end up using this for one of their promo campaigns in the 70s?

  • I actually like this song more after listening to it a few times... it's like a white female version of a Barry White song (not to mention she sings much better).

  • Don't care for the song, but anything done by the finest female vocalist warrants consideration.

  • Sounds like a Bacharac composition.

  • I want to walk down the aisle to this.

  • Nobody can touch Karen's vocal (what else is new? She was the GREATEST) but I like the arrangement on Cathy Carlson's version a little better.

  • Thank You For Posting This!! AWESOME!!!! :)

  • Thank you so much! GReat song!
